Battlefield 3 Explosives Specialization

In this portion of our Battlefield 3 specializations guide, we will be covering the EXPL and SQD EXPL specs in BF3. Below, you will find out what they do, how to unlock them, and what the best strategies for using them are.

Battlefield 3 Explosives Specialization – What is it?

The BF3 explosives specialization, denoted by EXPL, increase the amount of explosives you have. Note however that this only increases your explosives granted to you via gadgets and does not effect grenades.

This means the EXPL perk increases things like C4, anti-tank mines, and the number of rockets you start with. If you want to increase your grenade count, you will need to use the FRAG spec.

The SQD EXPL specialization increases the number of explosives for your entire squad. As soon as you unlock this, there is no reason to use the EXPL spec any more as the squad-wide version provides the same number of bonus explosives to each player.

BF3 EXPL Spec – How to Unlock

You get access to the EXPL specialization by leveling up. The non-squad version is unlocked at rank 11 whereas the squad version is unlocked at rank 31.

This of course refers to your overall level, not the progression of your kit. Once the specialization is unlocked it can be used on any kit.

Battlefield 3 Explosive Spec – When to You Use

The Explosive spec is naturally most useful for those actually using explosives. However, it is even more useful for those that have a need to actually use a lot of explosives. Just because you have a Rocket Launcher equipped does not mean you will necessary need more than your 4 starter rockets. This depends on your playstyle.

One example where you may want to use the EXPL spec is if you are a support class using C4. C4 can be used to level buildings, be placed around M-COMs, or even be used to destroy foliage. This is all particularly useful in Rush mode, where destroying foliage can make it hard for the offense to advance towards the M-COMs.

Additionally, the in Deathmatch the other team might be turtling inside a building. You can use EXPL + a rocket launcher to completely destroy the walls of a building. You will want the extra rockets from the EXPL spec to get this.

Battlefield 3 Explosive Specialization

In short, any time you need a lot of explosives, this is a good spec to pick up. Engineers can really make use of this in conjunction with the SMAW if you want to launch a lot of rockets as well. Be sure to switch over to SQD EXPL whenever you get it unlocked as opposed to the normal EXPL spec.
