Battlefield 3 Cover Specialization

In this Battlefield 3 Cover specialization guide, you will find out what COVR and SQD COVR do, how to unlock them, and the best strategies for using these specs.

Battlefield 3 Cover Specialization – What is it?

The Cover specialization reduces the effect of suppression fire on you. If you have ever noticed your screen blurring when you are under fire, this is the suppression fire effect. When you have the COVR spec active, it reduces this blurring effect.

This basically does the opposite of the SUPR spec (short for suppressive fire), which increases the amount of blur you experience when someone with this spec fires at you. This negates the effect of SUPR and makes you experience less suppression when you are under heavy fire.

There is also another version of the cover specialization called SQD COVR, which applies all the benefits of the COVR spec to all 4 members of your squad. You will always want to use this over COVR spec when you unlock it.

BF3 COVR and SQD COVR – How to Unlock

Like all specializations, you unlock this by getting promoted. As your general level (not kit level) goes up, you unlock more specializations.

The normal COVR specialization is unlocked at rank 14. You unlock the SQD COVR at level 35. It is one of the last specializations you will unlock in Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3 Cover Spec – When to Use It

The COVR spec really is not worth using on its own unless a large number of players you are going against are using it. It is definitely a good specialization but I really would not default to this spec over EXPL or AMMO.

The COVR spec is good to use when you are on a squad where other players are providing the more mainstream specializations through the SQD spec options. It is particularly good when you are on offense on Rush mode, as many players on the other team like to use the SUPR spec in this situation.

When all 4 players in your squad are using squad perks, you can have COVR, AMMO, SPRNT and SUPR at the same time, which is a nice advantage for your team. If you have a team full of engineers you can also use EXPL or FLAK as well.

Battlefield 3 Cover Specialization

The COVR spec is a pretty good spec as it reduces suppressive fire, but I do not consider it a “must have” specialization unless a lot of players on the other team are using the suppressive fire spec.

However, this BF3 spec is not totally useless and is definitely one to consider if all of the players on your team are using SQD spec and can provide AMMO or SPRNT for you.
